Why Should A D&C Done Before A Total Hysterectomy?

Hi a friend of mine has been told she needs to have a total hysterectomy due to uterine polyps. She is almost 60 yrs old. She was advised she also needs a D&C. She s not clear on why she needs the D&C if she s having a total hysterectomy. What are the reasons this would be done?

Hi, I think D and C is advised to rule out any endometrial carcinoma. Uterine polyps can also harbour endometrial cancer. So, to make a definite diagnosis, D & C will help. Prognosis can be explained better with a confirmed fish. So, D n C is required. Hope I have answered your question.
