Why The Sodium Level Is Not Improving Even After Sodium Intake With IV?

75 yrs old man had TURP done 3 months back, has been having UTI and diagnosed with E-Colli since then. from last few days he is having low sodium (121-117) and hospitalized, even after repeated sodium intake thru IV it s not improving. Also he is having fever between 100-102. what could be way forward to correct this problem?

Hello and welcome.

You have failed to mention his diet and whether or not he seems to be feeding well. Parenteral nutrition may be slightly on the expensive side, but I think it would be a better option that the usual saline solution in his case.
