Why There Would Be An Abscess Caused By Step Throat?
Hi my son has been to the doctor twice in the last six months, both times treated for strep throat. the first time it took two week to clear the infection. he went to the doctor three days ago , again the penicillin, is not helping. he went back today they have scheduled him for a cat scan. he may have an abscess, they are saying may need to be surgically remove. can you please explain, why there would be an abscess, caused from strep throat,
I do understand your concern regarding abscess but you must understand that an abscess simply means that the body has contained the infection in a place but unfortunately if the abscess is not drained or removed then you will not have any symptomatic improvement. In any case the formation of abscess does not depend on the type of bacteria and can happen in any infectious agent. You however need to get back to me or any ENT with more details as in where exactly is the abscess and how is your doctor planning to remove or drain the abscess
Hope this helps
