Why Unable To Stand Or Walk And Having Abdominal And Back Pain After Robotic Hysterectomy?

Good Day to you, I had ra full obotic hysterectomy on Dec 20, 2013, am 5 weeks post surgery today. Apparently, I was the first patient my Dr. used robotics on, in fact I had no knowledge he was using this procedure on me until I was out of recovery. My abdominal and back pain have each week progressively gotten worse. I had vaginal exam last week which was ok. However, over the weekend I was taken to ER as I couldn t walk or stand, and had to use a wheelchair. I was given 3 shots, one for pain, an anti-inflamatory and a steroid shot. I have been able to walk since but still in great pain. Is it possible that the machine damaged a nerve? I don t think my healing is normal. Thank You K

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

An abdominal robotic hysterectomy doesn't really cause so much pain as to you may experience difficulty in walking or standing, however prolonged operation or positioning of the body or possibly extension or instrumental use neared to sacral promontory can cause pressure or electrosurgical damage of sacral nerves, but other than the spinal anaesthesia can often cause some pain.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sameer Kumar, OB and GYN Specialist
