Will Ciproflaxin Cause Blood Pressure To Reduce Drastically?

I m currently traveling and get uti s. I feel I have one now. I have a prescription for ciproflaxin my doctor gave me awhile back in case I get a uti while traveling. Before I was given two new prescriptions. My concern is that I since have been prescribed lopressor 12.5 mg 2 times a day and plavix In the hospital the 25 mg of lopressor at one time was too much and lowered my heart rate where I needed medical attention. I thought I read that ciproflaxin could cause the lopressor to concentrate in my blood. So I m hesitant to take it for my uti. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are absolutely right. Ciprofloxacin decreases the metabolism of Lopressor which contains Metoprolol in the blood and increases its concentration.

I would advise you to discuss this with your physician and switch to a different antibiotic. Tab Nitrofurantoin also works well for UTI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
