Will Estrace And Provera Cause Period To Commence?

My doctor took me off the pill because I am 55 and still have not gone through menopause. I have been off the pill for about 6 weeks and have not had a period but the hot flashes, night sweats etc have been unbearable. She has written me a prescription for Estrace and Provera. Will this make my period start back?

Estrace and Provera has been prescribed as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Estrace contains estrogen, which is a female hormone. Provera contains medroxyprogesterone. Medroxyprogesterone is used with estrogen as combination hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women after menopause. This would help to overcome symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness and night sweats. These are symptoms seen during menopause due to lack of estrogen.

Combination HRT is preferred as it is known to prevent certain very serious side effects such as heart attacks, stroke, serious blood clots (thrombosis), dementia and breast cancer. Kindly take the medication as advised and do the necessary follow-up as suggested.
