Will I Be Protected If I Take Only 18 Out Of 21 Birth Control Pills?

When I got these pills I again forget that you could start on the first pill in the pack eventhough it wasn't the day it said above the pill. I started the pill on a Thursday of the first week... I then just kept going from there. The pack has 21 pills and I have taken 18 of them. Would it be ok if I just go on the placebo week (there are no placebo pills in this pack) starting Saturday Oct 8th and just skip the first three pills that I had missed? will I still be protected even though I only took 18 consecutive pills (everyday at the same exact time)?

Hello,

If you are not mentally or physically ready for a baby, you are suggested to take the regular contraceptive pills on a regular basis at the same time everyday. If you forget to take a pill, take it as soon as you remember it. Skipping or missing the pills reduces the efficacy of the medication and you may get pregnant. One drop of a man's seminal fluid contains thousands of spermatozoa. So you need to be very careful.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
