Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm getting major jaw surgery and am wondering if I will need a catheter for the surgery. My surgeon said that the surgery will take about 4 hours, but I have also heard from patients who have had the same surgery that it can take much longer...like 4-6 hours. I've never had a catheter, and I've had many surgeries with this surgeon/in this hospital, just all of those past surgeries were under 3 hours. So, will I need a catheter for a 4-hour surgery? If so, will the catheter be removed before I wake up? I've heard it can be hard to pee after you've had a catheter in you - is this true? Can anyone tell me from experience what it's like to have a catheter in you and/or go to the bathroom after a catheter has been removed (as a female!)?
Hi,
Thanks for query,
Catheter may not require as during surgery fluid intake is not there.
so there will not be passing of urine.
And even if catheter required you are not to worry about its complications as if it is there, may be of temporary and will go away.
Ok and bye.
