Will A Cortisone Help For Nodules To Go Away Which Are Caused By Acne Scars?

Hi.
I have had my 3rd subcision done for acne scars 5 weeks ago. Now I am left with 2 nodules/lumps in the subcion areas. How can I make these nodules go away? They have been there now for 3 weeks and no signs of flattening out at all.
My dermatologist put me in a day demeclocycline antibiotic but it did not help. Will a cortisone shot help?

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the problem of nodules after Acne Scar Subcision.

It is quite common to find bit of nodular foramtion after Acne Scar Subcision. It is much required process to lift up the scar. There is formation of dermal tissue along with collagen tissue to lift the scar.

Do not apply cortisone cream as it a steroid based cream and will not help you in long term.

You should report to your doctor if at all the nodules are large in size. The most important part in treatment is by sun protection by all measures. Eat healthy diet containing lot of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Do not try applying over the counter products as these can further aggravate the situation. Protect yourself form direct sunlight.

Use a good sunscreen on exposed area for 2-3 times and drink plenty of liquids everyday.

All the best.
