Will A Swollen Tonsil Affect Ear?

Hi! I have a swollen right tonsil with a small white spot which seems to be affecting the right ear [possibly Eustachian tube]. I have been advised to try a five day Z-Pak antibiotic. No fever but sinus congestion in head, cheeks, and upper teeth. Your recommendation please - give Azithromycin a try?

Hi,

It looks like Sinus Infection leading to the symptoms and the infected post nasal drainage can cause infection in tonsils. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view X-ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. Do warm compresses around nostrils.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
