Will Birth Control Lower The Effectiveness Of Acne Control?

I've had bad acne ever since I was 12. It came to a point of time in January where I was prescribed a benzoyl peroxide cream and doxycyline pills. I've been using them for two months and now I am up for a refill. I just finished it two days ago. Last week I just got on Birth Control. I heard that it can lower the effectiveness on the pill. My main concern right now is that my acne will come back like it used to be and I'm really scared about that. Is there anyway I could take both or something ? I'm not sure of what to do .

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Birth control pills contains hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which are metabolized in the liver by a complex enzyme system.

Certain drugs if taken simulatneously, which are also metabolized by the same enzyme system can either induce or inhibit the metabolism of each other thereby affecting the efficacy

As far as doxycycline is concerned it does'nt interfere with the metabolism of birth control pills, therefore you can safely take both of these.

regards
