Will Cortisone Shots Helps Better Than Benadryl For Itching Caused By Guttate Psoriasis?

I have Gutate Psoriasis and I am not necessarily having an outbreak I have no spots, but I am insanely itchy everywhere. It's a very sharp pointy itch as if a little pin is poking me. If I sit and try to relax and especially try to sleep it's nearly unbearable! Nothing helps, not Benadryl, not lotions, not teas, body washes, etc. I have also recently stopped drinking alcohol and have been drinking a lot of water and coconut water to rehydrate. I have heard cortisone shots can help with this? Any recommendations on how to remedy this would very much appreciated!

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I wont recommend a cortisone shot for a simple pruritis. Cortisone can even cause psoriasis to aggravate.

I would rather suggest that you see a dermatologist. Your dermatologist might ask you to take an newer generation, non sedating, long acting, oral antihistamine like Cetrizine 10mg twice daily OR Loratadine 10mg twice daily Or Fexofenadine 180mg.

Benadryl is a short acting antihistamine which is just 4-6 hours in duration, it is sedating too, whereas the longer acting antihistamines definitely have an advantage over benadryl in terms of better control and being non-sedating.

A topical soothing lotion e.g calamine lotion would provide symptomatic relief.

regards
