Will Eating Stale Food Harm My Baby?

I had a container of recently opened applesauce in the fridge, but so did my roommate - only hers was opened about 5 months ago. It must have gotten moved to the front of the fridge, because I ate it a few days ago thinking it was mine. I noticed a tiny spot of mold on the lid and thought that was odd, considering I had just opened it, but the rest looked and smelled fine so I figured I d just finish it off so it wouldn t go bad, still not realizing my mistake. I m 10 weeks pregnant. I felt fine after, but I am very worried there could have been something in there to hurt the baby. Is this a rational fear? I m not allowed to eat fresh deli meat, so I can t imagine 5 month old anything in the fridge is ok! What should I do about it?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about as ling as the food was not contaminated and did not cause a stomach upset. Please stop worrying. You should eat fresh and healthy food as your body requires much more nutrients than it ever has, but I am sure the old apple sauce has not and will not cause your fetus any harm.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
