Will Excess Intake Of Sugar Be Safe During Pregnancy?
I have been eating a lot of sugary foods during my pregnancy - and there seemed to be no way of giving them up. Now, with one month left before my due date this craving seems to have vanished but I'm now panicking that I may have caused some health problems for my baby. I'm 38 years old, five feet ten inches tall, and with the baby weight approximately 210lbs. I am a non-smoker and non-drinker. Many thanks, L - Ireland.
Welcome to HealthcareMagic, Excess intake of sugar is not good during pregnancy as it may result in gestational diabetes mellitus. The chance of you developing diabetes is more if any of your parents or siblings have diabetes. My advice for you is to do a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) by which we will come to know if you are having diabetes. It you blood sugars are in normal then you have nothing to worry about and can expect a normal baby. Hope that answers your question. Regards, Dr.Imaad.
