Will Exercise And Diet Control Help To Reduce Cholesterol Levels?

I get very fatigued when I get home from a desk job. My doctor told me to use Lipitor ! Since I have a high level to almost too high cholesterol. But I refrain from using Lipitor! Since I noticed my heart rate spiked after forgetting to take it for 2 days! So I decided to completely stop using it! Now I feel less fatigued, and all I had to do was walk, exercise, watch my food. Why do doctors like to always prescribed medicines, when they could have simply said : to go exercise and stay away from fast food?
