Will Having Alcohol And Drugs During Early Pregnancy Harm Baby?
Hi. I have recently found out i i am pregnant (i think about 4/5 weeks but yet to have a scan to find out). I can't help but worry every day about that fact that i will have been a week or so pregnant when i went to a party, resulting in drinking and taking mkat (methadrone?) and a small amount of speed. This is the only time during my pregnancy that i will have touched alcohol and drugs, but i cant help but worry if my baby will have birth defects such as missing limbs/finger/toes, or have a cleft lip/palate, etc? Please help x
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. mkat is methedrone, which is contraindicated in pregnancy. It can cause poor development of fetus/ low birth weight occasionally developmental anomalies . You have taken it only once.. that too very early in pregnancy, though that carries a point of concern, I don't think it would be matter to critical extent. Please never ever repeat it again. Please be in regular contact with your treating gynecologist. She will exclude all possible problems during 5th month anomaly scan. Thanks.
