General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First, congratulations for your baby. I hope both of you are doing well after delivery. Sometimes, when the process of delivery is difficult, and the mothers vaginal opening is smaller than the baby's head circumference, the medical team has to cut that tissue to pull baby out. When baby is out and placenta is out too, the doctor had to put stitches to close the opening there.

Usually, it will take 2-3 weeks for the wound to completely heal. But, in your case, it has already passed 6 weeks now, so, if no infection, the wound has been completely healed. I believe, the stitches have been removed by your gynecologist so far. And, if everything if OK, and no sign of infection, yes, you can have sex safely. You can talk to your partner about your fears, so you can take it easy for the first time after delivery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
