Hello and I hope I can help you today.
I am very happy for you that your
pregnancy this time has been uneventful. Having a low lying placenta in the second trimester is common because your
uterus is still not very big and there is not much space for the placenta to fit. However when the uterus gets larger the placenta will have more space to spread out and 99 percent of women with a low lying placenta will resolve by term.
The only symptoms a low lying placenta can cause sometimes is bleeding with sex.
Sex during pregnancy is NOT harmful to you or the baby, even if you orgasm. However if you experience bleeding with sex, just wait a week for attempting it again. If you have bleeding it usually stops within 24 hours.
So in summary, there is nothing to worry about from sex during pregnancy. If you bleed a little that is normal too, if it stops within 24 hours. Sometimes women get cramps when they orgasm or when a man ejaculates inside, but that also is not harmful.
I hope I adequately answered you question and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy, Dr. Brown
