Will Intake Of MDMA A Week Prior To Minor Surgery Cause Adverse Effects?

Hi, I have a minor operation scheduled for June 18th for which I will need general anaesthetic. It s only a minor op to remove a giant cell tumour on my hand. However, I had been planning on taking MDMA on the 12th, 6 days before the operation. If it s dangerous I obviously won t. Could the MDMA have any effect?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You should contact your surgeon directly about this. Just be honest with them. He or she can discuss it with their anesthesia team to see if they could be putting you at risk for a dangerous reaction with the medications they are planning to use. Since recreational drugs are not regulated, we can't effectively predict how they will react with the drugs used in surgery. If your surgeon and her or his team feel like it would be safer for you to reschedule until the MDMA has had time to clear your system. So, it will be wise not to take MDMA before your surgery. But, if you take the MDMA a week prior to surgery, you should inform your surgeon and then he or she will decide.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
