Hi there,

If the liver abscess has been drained, usually this is the appropriate treatment for this. Sometimes patients will still need antibiotics, and I'd recommend they have continued follow up with an ultrasound of the liver in 2 weeks to see if this has resolved or improved. If she has continued fevers and chills, or unable to tolerate a diet, then I'd be concerned that the abscess hasn't been adequately drained. An ultrasound of the bile ducts is also helpful, as this may show some kind of problem that caused her to form this abscess.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
