Will Quitting Smoking Cause Bloated Stomach?

MY son who is 47 years old quit smoking a year ago, and his stomach is extremely bloated. People have asked him if he was expecting a baby. I am afraid with all the remarks he has been getting he may go back to smoking. Have you heard of this, and if so what can be done. thank you
