Will Restricted Diet Help In Curing Type 2 Diabetes?

Just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I ve been reading various studies that claim metformin is a tried and true med for such cases. They also state it helps the symptoms but does nothing to fix the problem. I ve also read that the root cause of this disease is fatty build up around the pancreas. If this is the case could a restricted diet help? 68 yr old male non smoker

Metformin will decrease blood sugar and this is necessary to prevent bad effects of high blood sugar. it wont cure the diabetes but it should be taken if blood sugar is high.
