Will Taking Cytotec During Pregnancy Cause Any Problems To Baby?
Today Im in a middle of a situation where I dont know what to choose. Im currently pregnant for almost 10 weeks now. My problem is when it was 4-6weeks I attempted to abort it and so I took cytotec. At first I took 3 then nothing happened then I took 6 Still nothing happened lastly I took 8 and nothing happened. Now I want to continue my pregnancy but Im afraid of the effect on my baby. What could possibly happen to him
Hi & Welcome. I appreciate your concern for the safety & efficacy Cytotec.
Yes, Cytotec (Misoprostol) is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that Cytotec is known to cause harmful effects to an unborn baby.
There is an increased risk of birth defects such as deformities of the hands or feet and problems with the nerves of the fetus (unborn baby), if the pregnancy continues after attempting abortion with these medicines.
The fact that Cytotec will cause an abortion is 90%. of the users, so despite of taking large doses of Cytotec you could not bleed and hence abortion did not occur.
In view of the above listed possibility I advise you to consult your treating gynecologist for proper pre natal check up and an early ultrasound scan to detect any fetal anomaly.
Continue to take Iron and Folic acid along with calicum supplements as prescribed during Pre natal check up.
Hope to have clarified your concerns.
wishing you best of your health.
