Will Taking Provera Medicine For Four Days Cause Abortion?
my wife took provera for the last four days because initially she missed her period twice, urine test done but she was not pregnant, but she feel like having symptoms of pregnancy(nausea, vomitting, breast engorgement).if she is pregnant, will it cause abortion?
Hello, Provera or medroxy-progesterone acetate cannot by itself cause an abortion. Though, it is true that the use of progesterones in early pregnancy is of doubtful use when there is no real necessity because an abortion may usually be due to a defective embryo and hence cannot be avoided. Exposure to the medication in the first trimester of pregnancy can lead to hypospadias in the male or virilization of a female fetus. The symptoms experienced by your wife could be due to the hormone. Please confirm pregnancy through a blood test and a trans-vaginal sonogram before planning further management. Hope this helps.
