Will The Artificial Knee Holds Up The Joint Complications For The DM Type 2 Patient?
Below knee amp seems imminent for this DM type 2 patient, due to Charcot foot/ ankle joint complications, however artificial knee is present, will artificial knee hold up or is there a precedent that justifies doing above knee amp to avoid futher complications later?
Dear sir i can understand your concern, Charcot's foot alone is never an indication for amputation. Amputation is considered if there is bone infection which is making the wound not to heal In my post graduation we dealt successfully with many charcot's foot. Most of them recovered with total contact cast for 6 months. some extreme case we did nail and plate fixation to recover functionality. The level of amputation depend on Vascularity of the patient Below knee amputation will have good survival advantage than above knee amputation I suppose I have given the desired response if you have any other query please write back.
