Will The Baby Be Fine After Taking Mifepristone?

my girlfriend is pregnant and was on depo and decided to take Mifepristone last Tuesday to abort the baby. 20 min after taking the pill she threw up and hasnt stopped. Hours after taking the pill she developed cramps and has been spotting and even went to the er for medication to help. Last Friday she went in to take the other 4 pills and they said she had to re- do the whole process because she threw up too soon. At this point she is thinking of keeping the baby and doesnt know if this is a good choice at this point. Any thoughts?

Your girlfriend is indeed in a very tricky situation.

Continuation of pregnancy after Mifeprstone is not advised. Mifepristone can cause foetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman because the use of mifepristone results in pregnancy loss.

It has been shown that the continuation of pregnancy after Mefepristone has resulted in foetal abnormalities in animals though there is no sufficient data in human beings.

In fact medicines like Mifepristone should be taken only on Obstetrician's advice and under his/her supervision, lest the risk of incomplete abortion and/or infection - probably what you are experiencing. After these tablets, she had some amount of bleeding. So you are not sure about the integrity and safety of the baby.

If she cannot tolerate Mifepristone orally, better get abortion done by suction evacuation.
