Will The Consumption Of Postday Affect The Organs Or The Fertility?

Hello,
My husband and I are currently in a long distance relationship. Last month we had unprotected sex and I then took POSTDAY an emergency contraceptive. I took a total of three. I've been reading about it and I want to know if this affects my organs or my fertility. I now know I shouln't take more than 2 a year. Thank you.

Hi,

According to the literature and manufacturers, the points to be noted regarding emergency contraceptive pill are:
- Contraceptive pill usually contains a high dose of progesterone which by affecting the uterine endometrium prevents pregnancy.
- Because of the high dose of the hormone in it, it should not be used too frequently.
- Better to avoid using two pills in a single menstrual cycle.
- There should be at least two month gap between two emergency contraceptive pills to prevent undesirable effects on future fertility.

Though till now there are no proven data regarding the effect of emergency contraceptive pills on fertility. Repeated intake of emergency contraceptive pill can disturb the menstrual cycles by affecting the reproductive hormone levels and thereby ovulatory function leading to difficulty in conceiving. So better to maintain at least two month gap between the two pills. As you have already taken 3 pills, now observe your next menstrual cycles. If they are regular ovulatory cycles, you can plan for pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
