Will The Leg Bruising Move Down To The Feet Before Disappearing?

I was in a large cycling crash during a race a little while ago and doctor in the ER told me that the bruising on my legs might end up moving down into my feet and toe area before disappearing. Is this true? I think my ankles are looking a bit discolored when they weren't before but I was just curious if this was actually possible.
