Will The New Born Of A Cocaine Addicted Pregnant Female Test Positive?

If a woman didnt find out she was pregnant until 20 weeks, due to her doctor telling her years ago after her ovary was removed that she coudlnt have children, and she had been using cocaine would the baby test positive at birth? How long does it take from the day she used for her baby to test negative?

Hi,

If one continues to use cocaine or other drugs all through pregnancy, it is quite likely that the baby will test positive after delivery. In addition, the baby may also show the sequelae of drug abuse in the form of congenital defects and withdrawal symptoms after delivery. Once drug abuse is stopped, it will take around a week or so for the blood to clear off all metabolites, but the damage cannot be undone.

Best wishes.
