Will The Painkiller Affect The Baby During Pregnancy?

My friend will be delivering her baby in 1 week she took a couple percocets when she had her tooth pulled out for pain.. that was a couple months ago will it show up when they test the baby after being born? How long does it stay in sytem of the fetus?

It is completely appropriate to have urgent dental care during pregnancy AND it is safe to use pain medication for these procedures. This would include the percocet tablets that were taken in this case. The medication is cleared from the baby's system within a very short period of time. As far as detection in blood or urine, it is cleared from the mother's system rather quickly, but drugs can be detected in the baby's 'poop' or meconium for a very long period of time related to prior exposure. If you are worried about testing of the fetus and potential implications for you, you really need to talk honestly with your doctor.
