Will The Rash/hives And Fever Be Due To Spider Bite?

Hello. My wife was bitten from what I think may be a spider. There was a red area around the bite about 7 inches around. She went to our Dr, and she gave her Antibiotics to take. The Dr did not know what kind of bite. My wife had a fever of 102 about the third day after the bite, she had a fever for about two days, till it subsided. Now after a week, she had developed a rash/ hives around the bite, it s about 5 inches in diameter. We have been putting tree tea oil on it, it seems to be going away now. Was this a spider bite? We live in Machias Maine, Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Based on the description, it appears that she would have been bitten by an insect, and most probably spider.
Since she is already on antibiotics, she needs to complete the course as prescribed.
The bite site needs to be taken care by washing the area twice daily with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon. Take care to keep the wound clean and healthy.
In case she develops rise in temperature, she can take Tablet.Paracetmol 650mg.
For rashes and hives, she need to take Tablet. Levocetrizine 10mg once a day for 3 days.
