Will The Scars In Lungs Cause Any Problem In The Future?

Hi, on november 2013 my mom throw up out her mouth blood, she went to the doctor after an ray x and a tomography the doctor said that she has scars in the lungs, my mom has never had TBC, just when she was young she got cough and just take pills, the doctor said that was the problem for having scars now, the doctor said that the scars will no cause any problem but sometimes the scars can get infected, well the doctor said she just to rest and give her some antibiotics, now is april 2014 and my mom is fine , she didnt have the problem again, but my question is, will that scars cause any problem in the future?? i read about pulmonary fibrosis, and that scared me a lot, i hope you can help me, please doctor answer me............sorry for my english i am writing from Peru.

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Any lung insult either pneumonia or tuberculosis or lung contusion, after treatment heal by fibrosis or calcification. And this fibrosis or calcification appear as scar on chest x ray. And it will appear through out the life.
So scar tissue on her x ray is mostly due to past illness.
But the worrisome thing in her case is hemoptysis (blood in sputum). We need to rule out infection ( pneumonia or tuberculosis ) in her case because of hemoptysis.
So get done
1. CT thorax
2. Sputum examination for AFB
3. Sputum culture and sensitivity.
CT gives more information about scar tissue. It will also rule out pulmonary fibrosis.
So consult pulmonologist and get done above mentioned tests and start appropriate treatment.
