Wisdom Tooth, Painful Lymph Nodes, Difficulty Swallowing, Smell From Affected Area. What Is The Solution?

I'am 22 years old and all 4 of my lovely wisdom teeth have been coming in for what seems like a few years now, all of them are practically visible and none cause any pain or issues besides my dreaded bottom left. Its always been the only one that has caused pain and only my bottom teeth have drastically crowded taking straight teeth to very crooked. I have also noticed that this pain comes in cycles Ill have wisdom tooth issues one week then the next its gone and this has been reoccurring more frequently and more severely the past few months. My main symptoms this time around include

Ear pain on affected side
Painful to touch lymph node under the back of my jaw line
Difficulty swallowing
General left side neck discomfort
Bad smell coming from affected area

I don't know what my next step should be I need some help and reassurance thank you

hello,

we are here to help you out and would give you the best advice.

I have gone through your query and as per you described your symptoms ,it seems that you have got the infection in the surrounding gummy area of your left lower side of wisdom tooth. What we called it as a pericoronitis,i.e. the inflammation in the gum surrounding the wisdom tooth.

This situation is caused because as the tooth erupts it creates its path while coming from bone by moving the the gummy tissues over it.

As it comes up,we can see the small flap of gummy tissue, just behind and surround the crown of wisdom tooth. The erupting process itself causes discomfort and sometimes pain to that side of a jaw until the tooth completely erupts.

But if the food entrapment occurs bellow this flap, can lead to bacterial infection in the region.

This leads to inflammation, pus formation, pain and bad odor in mouth, also the mouth opening is reduced.

in some individuals swelling along with tenderness in tonsils and mild to moderate fever is observed.

so here are some points you should follow:

1) keep your moth as clean as possible

2) Add 1 tbs of salt in luke warm water and gargle with it 3-4 times a day.

3) you can use mouth wash also max.for 15days.

4)If the pain is unbearable you can take anti-inflammatory and pain killer medication ( like Enzoflam-500mg)

5) you should take antibiotic again prescribed by a dentist or physician.

6)If the path of upcoming tooth is proper then these simple points will help you out. But the tooth is deflected or tilted then you should visit the dentist.

7) In some cases the flap over the tooth has to be cut out but it can only be desided on clinical examination by Dentist.

Hope you satisfied by the explanation.

Take care.

Regards.

hello

Welcome to HCM.

I have gone through your past dental history and your symtoms indicate of Pericoronitis that has developed round your bottom left wisdom tooth

Pericoronitis develops when wisdom teeth only partially breaks through the gum. This allows an opening for bacteria to enter around the tooth and cause an infection. If the pericoronitis is severe, the swelling and infection may extend beyond the jaw to the cheeks and neck.

This can be treated with antibiotics and pain killers alone ..but if the pain and inflammation are severe, or if the pericoronitis recurs, you will need oral surgery to have the gum flap or wisdom tooth removed.

It is advisable that you to visit a periodontist as soon as possible.

get well soon. take care..

regards

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

The above symptoms which you have mentioned are due to the erruption of wisdom tooth, i would like to tell you that wisdom tooth is the last tooth to errupt in the oral cavity and is often associated with symptoms like pain, swelling, pericoronitis.

I would encourage you to visit to an Oral Surgeon and get the checkup done, take an OPG rdaiograph and plan for the removal of the tooth.

At home maintain a good oral hygeine, take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Start with the course of antibiotics and analgesics under the prescription of your Dentist.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards..

Hi..welcome to HCM

After reading your query it seems that you are facing a clinical condition called pericoronitis.

Its a clinical condition in which our tooth (wisdom tooth) is partially erupted i.e. only a little part of tooth is visible in the oral cavity which rest of the tooth is still surrounded by mucosa (gums).

Because of this partial opening the food and other debris can get lodged under the gums...this is followed by further decay of these debris by pathogens (bacteria) present in mouth which lead to infection.

Your complain of bad smell from lower left side of affected area is mainly because of this.
The infection by bacteria is enough to cause pain on your left side.

It is routine process you can consult a periodontist who can easily remove the surrounding gums of the affected tooth

It is highly advised that you maintain good oral hygiene that would help you a lot in this case.

Thank you
