Would ADHD Medication With Prozac Help Treat Excessive Sleep And Energy Symptoms?

I have been depressed on and off all of my life. Now as I get older I am finding that I either sleep too much or have outburst of energy. I can t keep my thoughts in check for to long of a time without forgetting what I am doing. Would ADHD medicine help me with this problem. I am already taking Prozac for the depression and this seems to be working.

You have problem of excessive sleepiness and lack of energy and are on Fluoxetine (Prozac) for depression. Fluoxetine is an antidepressant drug that result in insomnia and activation of brain so it should work in your situation to increase day time activeness. ADHD medicines like Adderall, amphetamines etc can increase day time wakefulness but these drugs have high abuse potential and are liable to produce dependence. I usually don't prescribe these medicines to my patients of depression. To increase wakefulness medicines like Modafinil, Armodafinil etc can be used. These medicines have good role in depression and are used to increase day time wakefulness and also help in improving motivation.

I suggest you to consult your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
