Wound On The Finger Still Healing Licked By Kitten, Took A Rabies Booster. Should I Get Another ?

Hi! I was given a rabies booster last October because I was bitten by 1 cat with no anti-rabies. I got 2 shots- day 0 & 3. Just yesterday I suspect a kitten may have licked my wound on my finger. Wound is still healing. Do I get another rabies booster? The booster I got was the first since my post exposure vaccine. Post exposure vaccine was done in 2010. Appreciate your advise. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
rabies vaccination should be taken after animal bite e.g. dog bite, cat bite, bat btite, etc.The schedule for anti-rabies vaccine consists of vaccine at dufferent intervals- day 0,1,3,7,14,21,28 and 90.
Out of these vaccine, ythe day 90 is the booster dose.
Depending on the severity of bite, additional immunoglobulin also need to be taken.
The effect of the entire vaccine schedule gives protection for period of atleast one year.
If there is repeat bite wound which is very severe then complete vaccination is needed.
In case of licks, tetanus toxoid can be taken.
In your case, there is history of licks on the wounds, proper cleaning of wound and tetanus toxoid intra-muscularly.

Thanks and take care
