My 2 Year Old Had A Tonsillectomy And Adenoidectomy 4

my 2 year old had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy 4 days ago. When hes sleeping at night he sounds full of a lot of mucus and hes been wakeing up coughing which really hurts him and makes him scared to swallow his spit. Is it normal for him to be like this even when hes on pain medication?
