My 96 Yr Old Mother Has Had Some Swelling In

my 96 yr old mother has had some swelling in both lower legs and has 3 episodes of extreme leg pain since 1/6 she went to er 3-4 days ago & was sent home with a scrip for tramadol which she refuses to take (thinks it is poison) Fsmil doc today told her to take 1 daily dose of 2 tum, 2 magnesium & 4oz of tonic water. all I could get from her was the doc said what she is experiencing has to do wiith advanced age. mother is in florida & I am in Maryland. should I contact other family member closer to to go & follow up on this? thank you barbara
