my dad had 4 surgeries within 1 month on his left shoulder for septic joints. he is on antibiotics using a pic line. the first 3 surgeries the infection kept oozing through the incision. the fourth surgery the doctor wash the area with saline, did some debriding and went into the humourus cleaned out the infection, packed it with antibiotics and cemented it closed. the stitches came out after 2 weeks. the area remains very red, but not warm to touch. the doctor says he is pleased and not to come back for 3 weeks. my dad is 87. my question, with all the trauma to the shoulder, is it normal to be so red looking. the scar incision is very clean with no weeping.
