Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a blood pressure of 14/9.5,,, some doctors recommend to start medications, others not. I m 34 yrs old, my ECG,echo cardiography and stress test were normal. Microslbumin in spot urine is normal, metanephrine and nor metanephrine are normal as well. Cholesterol is 240, LDL is 170, HDL 37. Please advise
thank you for your question! Regarding your blood pressure values they confirm hypertensio grade I; in addition you have another risk factor for coronary disease which is hypercholesterolemia; all this backgroung rates you to the moderate risk for coronary disease in the future (according to recent medical guidelines); so you need to be more careful; you have to treat your high blood pressure and also high blood lipid profile; start one representative from any classes of antihypertensive drugs such as Amlodipine 5 mg/day or ramipril 2.5 mg/day and check your BP frequently; turn your diet to a healthy one (I recomend you Mediterranean diet) and see the results for about 3 months; if high lipid profile persists then you should take medication: one of the statins class. Hope to have been helpful. Greetings from Dr.Iliri
