Who Is The Best Doctor To Consult For Emotional Problems, diabetic Neuropathy And How Does Oxycodone Help?

My name is john and I am 70 years old. I struggle with diabetic neuropathy pain in my feet and legs. The VA gives me gabapentin and now metformin for the diabetes. Too soon to tell if the metformin is helping just started taking it. They also prescribed methadone for pain that does not do all that much. I am 6 feet tall and weight 380# In 2009 I had an on the job injury falling on my head from 6 feet high onto a hard surface. The result from that fall is double vision, back and neck pain. Now the diabetic problems on top of that. I have struggled with emotional problems since the US Navy. My ship and crew were used as guinea pigs in bio chem warefare agents. Every kind you can think of were dumped on us in 1964 near Newfoundland. The tests are known as SHAD / Project 112. I believe that I have been damaged mentally and other from that exposure. Our crew took it to the surpreme court and made it to the court of appeals only to be shot down by the DOD. It was cut and dried in the favor of the DOD. Thank you Robert McNamara....... Sir, I have taken oxycodone 15 mg in PM and it has helped me with pain and surprisingly emotional help. A friend gave me some to try. The VA does not prescribe Oxy therefore I cannot get it. Can you please recommend a DR or clinic that would prescribe this med for me, also can you please tell me how the oxy helps me? Thank you John

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

First and foremost, I am sorry about your sad experience.

I should tell you that diabetic neuropathy treatment has two main components. One is a very good control of blood sugars. And second, finding out other causes of neuropathy and ruling them out like vitamin B12 deficiency, TSH, etc. I would largely agree with the treatment given to you. But I need to know how well your sugars are controlled. So meet your diabetologist regularly.

As for emotional lability, I would suggest meeting a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist. They would be the right team of people to help you with it.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
