Is It True That Alcohol Is To Be Completely Avoided Since Having Acute Pancreatitis?
I'm 39 yo female. I had acute pancreatitis 14 years ago. I just had a GI doctor tell me i shouldn't be drinking ANY alcohol,(not even on a rare special occasion) that it may cause another attack and could be very severe. Is this true? Thank you, Theresa
If your previous attack was due to alcohol, then it would indeed make sense to avoid alcohol completely. But if your first attack of pancreatitis was not caused by alcohol, then I would suggest that you take a second opinion from any other gastroenterologist regarding occasional consumption of drinks with very low alcohol content.
Best wishes.
