Hi, I am 24. I regularly face problems in breathing in early mornings. What I have observed is quite strange. If I wake up either in nights or early in mornings, say before 7a.m, I will definitly facing this problem. I literally grasp for air in such moments. Whereas if I wake up on or after 8 a.m., there is no such problem faced. I have been seeing all this since about 6 years. Should I take this seriously? What is causing all this? And, what can I do for it?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi thanks for using HCM. I appreciate your explaination.
Should I take this seriously? Yes. It may go for status asthmaticus like you explained grasping for air.
What is causing all this? Normal circadian rhythm cause broncho constriction in early morning. In some it will aggravate. Its one of the sign of asthma.
And, what can I do for it? 1. Breathing exercise. 2. Don't expose to cold weather. 3. Medication> During gasping or severe breathlessness use Salbutamol Inhaler. For control: Can take Tab. Montelukast(Plain) 10 mg every evening or Inhalational steroid one puff every evening.
Hope you got all yourqueries solved and you will be alright with these. Wish you good health. Take care.
