I have spirometer test results for two patients. Both are complaining of difficulty breathing and feel weak. The first patient is a 50 year old woman who reports that she constantly feels that she cannot get enough air. She is 158 cm tall, vital capacity- 1955 mL, forced expiration volume- 1400 mL, tidal bolume- 500 mL. The second patient is a 16 year old boy who reports that he cannot run the length of the soccer field without gasping for air. The boy is 170 cm tall. His spirometer readings are: vital capacity- 4390 mL, forced expiratatory volume- 2150 ML, tidal volume- 500 mL. Based on this information, give a probable diagnosis for each patient. And why are you choosing that diagnosis?
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Look from the information provided by you is not sufficient to mak the diagnosis. You didnt mention the predicted value for that boy or woman as per their age sex weight and height.
Another fault is there you didnt perform the bronchodialator test.
To make a diagnosis post-bronchodialator finding is more important.
Because to make a diagnosis the predicted value of FVC, FEV1, PEFR25-75 is necessary.
Also you have to post the picture of flow-volume loops.
So make sure you have performed all these and send those information to us. We will make the diagnosis for you.
Thank you.
