Can Barotrauma Cause Fluid Buildup In Mastoid Air Cells?
Hello. I d like to know if a barotrauma can cause fluid buildup in the mastoid air cells. If so, can that fluid cause dizziness and tinnitus? Additionally, can the fluid become infected....and then cause dizziness and tinnitus? Finally, if it is infected how fast can that infection get into the bone structure? Thanks, Mike
Hello, Barotrauma is change in pressure causing trauma to the ear. Barotrauma usually affects the middle ear. This can lead to tinnitus and dizziness. Usually it will not lead to infection. The treatment of barotrauma is by using decongestant drugs after consultation with ENT surgeon.
Thank you
