i recently had an ingrown toenail, it was purple on one side of my toe, and i soaked it in some warm water and epsom salt amd digged into it with toenail clippers, and it went away... about 5 days later my toe is hurting again but it's not purple. i did the same thing, i soaked it in warm water and epsom salt, and digged into it. when i digged into it, white stuff came out of the side of my toe. what is this? and how do i treat it?

Hello, Thanks for your query. The definite treatment for ingrown nail is nail avulsion and lateral matrix phenolisation. Lateral matrix phenolisation prevents ingrowth of nail. Use an antibiotic cream like mupirocin or nadifloxacin to settle infection. If there is any swelling pain or redness near margins just apply topical antibiotic and steroid cream to reduce swelling and infection. Try to lift nail margins using the blunt end of tooth pick to prevent it from getting embedded in adjacent soft tissue. Regular dipping in warm water, cutting nails regularly and use of such OTC solution may help you quite a lot. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
