Your advice was helpful insofar as my aunt called the U of Michigan number. But she was told that, absent a thorough review and exam, the likely treatment there would be Gabapentin, which my uncle had already been on, with no pain relief and significant side effects. (same results with Amitriptyline). In the meantime, my uncle's emotional state worsened and suicidal ideations increased to the point that my aunt had him taken to the nearest inpatient stress center. The staff there, including a pain specialist, are now working with his pain specialist to see if he can go back on fentanyl under close supervision and monitoring, since it is the only treatment that has given him any relief. At the present time, he is in a good environment under continuous observation, and my aunt is getting a little respite. Thank you, Marvin Rupp
