Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
Normal positions of placenta are anterior and posterior wall of uterus. The condition, when the placenta reaches the XXXXXXX OS is called placenta previa. If the placenta encroaches the whole XXXXXXX os , then it may causes per vaginal bleeding, delay in labour, bleeding during delivery, etc.But given that she is only 13 weeks pregnant, we would definitely expect the placenta to move up as the pregnancy advances.

Now, your wife should follow the following instruction-
1. Take bed rest.
2. Avoid heavy work and sexual intercourse.
3. Take good, nutritious diet.
4. Be cautious about any bleeding. If bleeding occurs, consult with your treating doctor immediately for hospitalization and close observation.
5. Repeat the ultrasound scan every 6 to 8 weks to follow the positions of placenta. It is commonly observed that the positions of placenta changes with progression of pregnancy. So, the position should be followed up.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards.
