Question : My 7 month old son was passing stool only once a day. Since birth he had problem with acid reflux. We started cerelac when he was 4 months as per doctor's advice. Since last 3 weeks he has started passing stools 4-6 times a day and also increased vomiting after each feed. The stool is slightly watery. There doesn't to be blood in the stool.

Thanks for writing to us.
If the stool is watery with no blood or mucus, it is in favor of viral infection. What you have to do is see that he does not get dehydrated. Please give oral electrolytes which are available in powder form in packets . The clear instructions are printed in the XXXXXXX as to how to use it. Mix it with clean water and give 1-2 oz after every loose stool.
Check whether he is passing urine as usual.
This will take care of dehydration. As of now, there is no need for antibiotics. Just keep a watch on him.
You can continue the milk and cerelac plain rice.
Regarding acid reflux- is he on any medications?
This is called gastro oesophageal reflux.
Keep the child in semi erect posture when feeding and also head end slightly elevated when sleeping.
With time he will improve.
If the vomiting becomes more severe along with loose motions, get back to the pediatrician to examine and assess the child
