Are HIV And STD Tests Conducted 7 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?
Candom broke during sex with sex worker, though she claimed she is healthy and looks like , for the peace of my mind i visited sexologist on 7th day after exposure, doctor asked me to get test for hiv 1 rna pcr quantitative and other std tests like HSV, VDRL,HBSsAg & CBC, all tests came negative.
HIV 1 RNA pcr test came target not detected. My doctor told i am absolutely safe.
But again i went for hiv RNA/ DNA pcr at manipal hosp on 28th day and that also came negative( HIV 1 DNA by PCR qualitative).
Still my mind not out of fear, could you please refer my attached reports and provide an answer, do i need to go for further tests ? i am still avoiding sex with my wife, i dont want to put her also on trouble, shall i start having sex with my wife without any fear?
If i need to consult any doctor again please suggest me good doctor in XXXXXXX
You can go for repeat testing after 3 months of exposure.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
You had protected sex with sex worker but condom broke during the act then the risk of getting the infection is there if the girl was HIV positive which she denied and also looks healthy as you told so the risk is minimized.
Second, you got tested for HIV 1 RNA PCR quantitative assay and other STDs tests like HSV, VDRL, HBs Ag and CBC on 7th day after exposure and all came negative, again you got tested for HIV 1 DNA PCR qualitative assay on 28th day of exposure which also came negative than nothing to worry at all as the risk of getting the infection is negligible or very remote as your doctor said.
You can go for repeat testing after three months of exposure with 4th generation HIV test just as routine procedure. The HIV 1 DNA PCR is highly reliable and also conclusive after 28 days so don't worry much. You can have sex with your wife without any fear. You can use condom if still any doubt left in your mind.
I will also advice you as your friend to stay away from unsafe sexual practices to avoid the future risk of HIV and other STDs. Be relaxed without thinking much about HIV and go ahead in life happily.
Thank You
HIV 2 infection is very rare in XXXXXXX so no need to get tested for it.
