Are Abnormal Heart Rate And Seizures Controlled By Exercises?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Sir, I am suffering from epilepsy. I have 95% seizures right after my lunch, in the time slot of 12 PM to 3 PM. Just before the seizure, my heart rate suddenly increases and I start feeling light headed. In Fact, I can't even interpret simple things. It seems as if my mind has just stopped working, then the aura occurs and I become unconscious.

However, if I exercise and do utthak baithak exercise vigorously during that period, I am mostly able to control my heartbeat and my mind seems balanced. The seizure is stopped by the exercise. I have tried it successfully many times. Am I actually suffering from epilepsy or it is postprandial hypotension or abdominal epilepsy? Please help me. I am scared of eating anything, esp. rice, potatoes, tuar dal and sugary foods, as generally they induce a seizure if taken during lunch.

Brief Answer:
EEG/Evaluation for postural hypotension.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

If you would have presented to me as an outpatient, with this clinical history,I would have checked your blood pressure in supine and standing position for a postural fall in blood pressure(I would have done it after you have eaten something full stomach or taken your lunch). This is necessary to rule out post prandial hypotension.Probably, the physical exercise increases the venous blood return and so it improves the situation.

Though the history of improvement with physical exercise, goes against epilepsy but still,I would have preferred to let you have an Electroencephalogram(EEG) done after you are full stomach/taken your lunch,to rule out Epilepsy.

So,my advice is that you please get evaluated for postural hypotension and get an EEG done, post meal.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
